Moonflower

The Final Breath

I am still alone with her She doesn’t see me, unearthly shadows cast across my face I sit in solitude feeling the absence of warmth Light without kindness Air too cold to inhale Making myself smaller and smaller, She tucks in beside me Curled next to her, I know we will never touch But my fascination does not yield. I am still alone with her When my mask cracks and finally slips off Porcelain reflecting her frigid glow The joys of who I was today fall Leaving only my body, festering and worn Her unseeing eyes do not mind, do not notice She simply sits with me until dawn Until when she must go She always must go Sometimes she joins me in the garden By her light I plant seeds of character Primrose blooms as I recount my laughter, Light is too precious to let die. Jasmine for the growing pains, Mistakes I won’t make twice. Moonflower for her.
